The 2018 Asian Games

The 2018 Asian Games (IndonesianPesta Olahraga Asia 2018), officially known as the 18th Asian Games and also known as Jakarta–Palembang 2018, was a pan-Asian multi-sport event held from 18 August to 2 September 2018 in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.

Mascot

There are three mascots for the Asian Games 2018 – The bird of paradise “Bhin Bhin”, single-horned rhinoceros “Kaka” and Bawean deer “Atung”. The first Asian Games to introduce a mascot was New Delhi 1982 — ‘Appu’ the elephant.

 

2022 Asian Games

The 2022 Asian Games, also known as XIX Asiad, will be a multi-sport event celebrated in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China from 10 to 25 September 2022. Hangzhou will be the third Chinese city to host the Asian Games, after Beijing 1990 and Guangzhou 2010.

  • India secured a bronze medal in the men’s team regu event which was the country’s first medal in sepak takrawsince the debut of the sport in the 1990 Asian Games.
  • India secured its first ever medal in table tennisin the Asian Games as the men’s team won a Bronze medal by defeating Japan in the quarterfinal of the Table tennis at the 2018 Asian Games.
  • In the 25 meter rapid fire pistol eventRahi Sarnobatbecame the first Indian woman to clinch the gold medal in a shooting event of Asian Games.
  • Vinesh Phogat, who won gold in the women’s freestyle 50 kg category, became the first Indian woman wrestler to win a gold medal at the Games.
  • Saina Nehwalwon India’s first ever medal in the women’s singles event in badminton at the Asian Games when she won the bronze medal after losing the semi final.
  • V. Sindhubecame the first Indian shuttler to reach the final of a singles badminton event at the Games and eventually won a silver.
  • Neeraj Choprawon the country’s first javelin gold medal, setting a new national record.
  • Indian pair of Pranab Bardhan & Shibnath Sarkar won the gold medal in the inaugural edition of Contract bridge at the 2018 Asian Games – Men’s pair
  • Vikas Krishan Yadavsets the record to become the first Indian boxer to clinch a medal in three successive Asian games.
  • Swapna Barmanwon gold medal in women’s Heptathlon which is India’s first ever medal in this kind.
